PERSONALITY
Miles is a good kid! He's friendly, thoughtful, and likes to have fun more than he likes to do homework. As a young teen though, he's also pretty self-conscious and can be awkward around people, especially if he doesn't know them. He does his best to make new friends at his new school, trying to greet people and make conversation even if it doesn't stick. Unfortunately, he can easily get very caught up in his own head as well, such as overthinking how the other kids in school perceive him. After talking to "Gwanda" and accidentally getting his hand stuck in her hair due to being unable to control his powers, he completely ignores her advice on how to let go and her pleas to not just yank his hand out, thus resulting in him tearing a good chunk of her hair out. When a security guard accuses him of sneaking out past curfew, he panics and runs away immediately. School can be overwhelming on its own, and it's made doubly difficult when dealing with new powers. Miles does the best he can to manage it alone, but the results are still less than stellar.
Still, while Miles never really plays up to it, he's pretty smart. He can be crafty and tends to think quickly on his feet. After purposefully bombing a test in school in hopes that he'll be kicked out, his teacher correctly points out that the only way to get a flat 0 on a test is to actually know every answer and purposefully pick the wrong ones. Even though he believes that he only got into his new school through a lottery system, his dad insists that he tested into it; if he really is 13-years-old, given that he goes to high school, it's likely that he tested up into a grade. When caught entering a class late, he comes up with a(n admittedly corny) joke to try and diffuse some of the tension. After Peter rejects his request to teach him how to be Spider-Man, he makes a big show of sulking and sighing and generally looking pitiful—knowing that it'll likely guilt Peter into agreeing to help him out. Miles would never really boast about his intelligence outside of fight banter, and he doesn't really think of himself as all that smart, but he proves his wits time and time again.
He's a creative type at heart, expressing himself through mainly music and artwork. Sometimes that means tagging street signs with his own stickers or throwing up artwork on abandoned walls, but in his eyes even if it's vandalism, it's ultimately harmless and bothers no one aside from sticklers for the rules. Perhaps unsurprisingly, especially given that he's a teenager, he has a certain disregard for rules and authority. After just a few weeks, he sees his new boarding school as elitist and suffocating. He sneaks out of his dorm and breaks the curfew rules to hang out with his uncle, has a tense and strained relationship with his cop father for most of the film, and doesn't treat Peter with much respect despite him being the only person who can teach him about his new powers. Still, he means well despite it all. Even though he commits to vigilantism by acting as the new Spider-Man, he strives to improve his relationship with his father both as a superhero and personally. He rises to the challenge of making his new school work out for him by trying harder instead of actively trying to fail and drop out.
And perhaps that's Miles in a nutshell. He rises to the occasion, no matter what it is. After meeting so many people like him, people who just happened to be bitten by a radioactive spider, he realizes that it really could be anyone underneath the Spider-Man mask. So, why not him? Despite initially not even wanting his powers, he never shies away from the responsibility passed onto him by them. When his world's Peter Parker asks him to destroy Fisk's machine, he takes it very seriously despite knowing how inexperienced he is. Later on when Peter B. tells him to wait outside while he infiltrates a dangerous facility, Miles follows him in because he can't stand the thought of letting Spider-Man die again. It takes quite a few life-threatening and heart-wrenching events to get him there, but by the end of it all, Miles takes that leap of faith to ultimately have faith in himself and what he can do. No matter the odds against him, he'll stand back up and bravely face whatever comes his way every time. That kind of bravery, courage, can come from anyone, and it can certainly come from him.
POWERS
ASTORIA-GIVEN. Paint Manipulation, the ability to generate and manipulate paint so that art and objects he paints comes to life. Cannot create real people, objects do not last permanently. Starts off with only being able to bring smaller objects to life, can increase the strength and size of items with practice.
CANON POWERS. Miles was bitten by a radioactive spider giving him a plethora of superpowers. Among the typical Spider-Man powers are superhero abilities like super strength, enhanced endurance and agility, and superb reflexes. More notably, he also has the ability to stick to just about any surface, maintains perfect balance/equilibrium no matter what position he is in, and has what is known as Spider Sense. Spider Sense allows him to sense oncoming danger, such as a debris being tossed his way, before it comes into contact with him. It also allows him to sense other people like him aka other Spider people. Like others who bear the Spider title, he also has some degree of self-healing or regeneration as his wounds tend to heal very quickly.
He also has a few unique abilities including invisibility and venom blasts. His invisibility is triggered by his fight-or-flight response, and it camouflages not only himself but whatever he's wearing as well. Venom blasts are a discharge of Miles' bioelectricity; by touching something with his hand, he produces a blast of energy powerful enough to shock, knock out, and even send people flying backwards.
